DARBHANGA- THE CULTURAL CAPITAL OF BIHAR
Darbhanga is the capital city of Darbhanga division in Bihar state. It is also know as "the heart of mithilanchal". The name Darbhanga is taken from two words "Dwar" meaning the gate and "Banga" meaning Bengal or gateway of Bengal. It is also believe that the name Darbhanga is originated from the Sanskrit word Daru-Bhanga which means "Town built by cutting forests". It had the seating of Darbhanga raj and became the capital of mithila region. Darbhanga is known as cultural capital of Bihar because of it rich in musical form and folk-art. The song of the famous Maithili poet Vidyapati still sung in this region. Mithila painting is famous folk-art in these areas. Some of the traditional festival of this area are 'Madhushrawani', Natua nach', and Sama chakeva. Local language of this region is Maithili.
