DARBHANGA- THE CULTURAL CAPITAL OF BIHAR

 Darbhanga is the capital city of Darbhanga division in Bihar state. It is also know as "the heart of mithilanchal". The name Darbhanga is taken from two words "Dwar" meaning the gate and "Banga" meaning  Bengal or gateway of Bengal. It is also believe that the name Darbhanga is originated from the Sanskrit word Daru-Bhanga which means "Town built by cutting forests". It had the seating of Darbhanga raj and became the capital of mithila region.

Darbhanga is known as cultural capital of Bihar because of it rich in musical form and folk-art. The song of the famous Maithili poet Vidyapati still sung in this region. Mithila painting is famous folk-art in these areas. Some of the traditional festival of this area are 'Madhushrawani', Natua nach', and Sama chakeva. Local language of this region is Maithili.

Darbhanga is famous for it rich past and royal association with the Darbhanga raj- one of the richest landowner of the country during British time. Richness of art and culture can be seen in every partof this city. Unique art and culture of Mithila make it awesome tourist destination.Some of the tourist site around the city are Kusheshwar Asthan Bird sanctuary, Ahilya sthan, Manokamna Temple, Brahmpur, Chandradhi museum, Maharaj Laxmiswar singh museum etc.. Apart from these site Darbhanga Fort, Shyama kali temple, Mazar of Makhdoom Baba, Holy Rosary church, Chandradhari museum and Harahi pound are the main attraction of the city.

As we see Darbhanga has many site which can attract tourist but due to neglected by State and Central government the city is unable to attract tourist around the country. Some of site are in bad condition such as Darbhanga fort.
