Kamal Nath Jha
"Heights by great men.. were not achieved by a sudden flight.
They, while there country-men slept, were roaming upwards in the night!!
India's freedom Movement against the British was witness to an overwhelming participation of people throughout the country. From Kashmir to Kanyakumari, Assam to Gujrat thousand of man and women fought together against atrocities of British government. While many sacrificed their life to protect the dignity of their motherland and many got injured, bruised and imprisoned.
When it came to freedom movement and freedom fighter, it cannot be completed without the contribution of freedom fighters from Bihar because the freedom movement itself start from Bihar as we all know. Many great leader from Bihar came in lighted in the freedom movement. Some of them were get recognized by the people of India and there name got place in history of independence of India .
In this blog I am going to write about the unsung freedom fighter from Bihar. I am going to talk about a man born in Bangoon largest village in Saharsa district of Bihar and who is freedom fighter, social activist, and also the lok sabh and Raj sabha member of independent India from Saharsa constituency. I am talking about Kamal Nath Jha.
Kamal Nath Jha
Shri Kamal Nath Jha participated in the Indian Independent Movement . He was originally associated with the Socialist Party, offered Satyagraha, and courted arrest during college days for the same. He gave up his studies and joined the freedom movement in 1942. Being a natural leader, he organized the underground armed resistance force known as "Azad Dasta" in Purnea District - intended to merge with the Azad Hind Fauz once it entered India, which never happened. In the aftermath of the failure of Azad Hind Fauz to enter India, Jha destroyed arms worth crores of rupees in those days lest they fell into the hands of the British.
Soon thereafter he was trapped on the Koshi Bridge by British troops along with his comrades and shooting ensued. Despite being wounded and in high fever, Shri Jha jumped into the raging Koshi river. He was later arrested at a train station when he was trying to escape. His arrest was as a security prisoner under D.I.R. in 1944 and detained in Bhagalpur Central Jail and released in 1946 after the case against him- likely to yield death by hanging or kala pani (life imprisonment in the Andaman Islands) was inconclusive, Indian independence being nigh also played a role.
While most of us know about the popular freedom fighters through our text books and media sources, there were many others whose names have lost in the background of history and heritage. Nonetheless, the contribution of these great men also were no less than that of the popular faces that we know. Shri Kamal Nath Jha was also one of those unsung heroes - persistent, committed, impulsive and extremely proud of our Motherland and existence as Indians.
